Level Up Phase II

How long can you survive without water?

By Rtr. Nethmie Jayasooriya

Why is it important to provide access to drinking water in schools?

Drinking clean water plays an important role in maintaining a good health. Kids generally spend about 6 hours per day at school. Therefore providing access to drinking water throughout the school premises affects their overall consumption of water, energy intake and helps to keep up the adequate hydration.

Even so it is very unfortunate that not all the schools in Sri Lanka are capable of providing drinking water in schools. Nakkawita Kanishta Vidyalaya, Deraniyagala is such an under privileged school. It is sad to hear that the kids in this school have to walk more than 1 1/2 km to the nearest stream to fetch water. The saddest part is that the water they collect from the stream is NOT at all in good condition. These small kids have no choice but to walk far in the burning sun to quench their thirst when they are supposed to sit in the class room and learn.

The kids in this area find it difficult to cover even their bus fare. So we decided to help them to get water since they can not afford it on their own. We have planned to install a pipeline system from the tank on the peak of the mountain close to the school . You can also be a part of this worthy cause to help these kids. If you want to make a change in this New Year, here is one way where you can change the life of these innocent kids of Nakkawita Kanishta Vidyalaya, Deraniyagala.

Make their dreams come true.
Donate so that these children will gain access to clean and pure drinking water!

Let us all join hands together to make a change! 😊
