Plogga' 19

By Rtr. Mithuni Jayasingha

Plogging is a movement, that started in Sweden, with the idea of people picking up plastic, while jogging, to help prevent pollution on streets due to plastic.

Driven by this amazing concept, the Rotaract Club of Katugastota organized Plogga’19, as the 3rd phrase of their Clean Revolution Initiative, on the 3rd of August 2019 six Rotaractors, representing the Rotaract Club of College of Chemical Sciences, took part in this aspiring event, to help rid the streets of Kandy of plastic.
The event commenced with the registration of the participants, followed by a Zumba Session to boost up the spirits of The Rotaractors, for what was to come next.
The participants were grouped into teams, and they were given routes to follow, where along the way, they had to make sure the streets were as free of garbage as possible. The event was a success due to the collective effort of 252 participants, accumulating 681 Kg of Garbage.
The event was just a start to the concept in helping to save the world from plastic and was a great exposure to all of us that took part. Plogga’19 clearly revised the way I viewed my plastic usage and definitely inspired me to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic for the benefit us, our country and our future.
Viva La Rotaract!
