Speak Up

By Rtr. Afra Irfan “Where does it hurt?” they ask. Is it a pain in your stomach? Or an aching head? Is it a burning fever? Or a sprained leg? Physical ailments are a common occurrence. Everyone talks about them. Everyone understands them.  But what people fail to understand is that issues with health are not solely restricted to the physical aspects of it. Health is not only in body but also in mind. But, when it comes to mental health, people tend to be quite reluctant not only to talk about it,and discuss it. They’re actually much more reluctant to admit it. No one seems to pay much attention when it’s your heart that hurts. Our culture and society, the taboo and social stigma that comes associated with mental health has made it almost impossible for us to reach out and talk about what pains us. And even if people were willing to do so, it is quite rare that they have access to the necessary professional help or that they are able to actually afford it. As a solution

By Rtr. Jasra Saneer The Rotaract project, “Habitat for Humanity” was a cluster project which the Rotaract Club of CCS was a part of, along with the Rotaract clubs of the alumni-University of Moratuwa, Nallur, Negombo, Kandy, Colombo East and Faculty of Law- University of Colombo.  The project was chaired by our assistant secretary Janeshta Fernando and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colombo regency comprised of 3 phases. Light Up A Life

By Rtr. Zaafir Reyaz  If there is one cause that every man and woman breathing should support, it is the conscious embracement of diversity. A future paradigm crucial to the  preservation of mankind. A mantra supporting equal rights for all people. A shift of mind that will make you a happier, better person. Each and every one  of us is unique in our own way, and this uniqueness comes in its many forms. These differences can be in terms of intellectuality,  culture,  socioeconomics,  religion , family  and so on. Among the more shunned-away group of people are the disabled,  handicapped and mentally challenged.  It is wrong to say that people falling under this category do not contribute to society to a great extent. Stephen Hawking has arguably contributed more  than a lot of non-disabled people out there. The same could be said for Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ralph Braun and Stevie Wonder. It is also wrong to treat  these people any less. They should undoubtedly be treated diff
