  I l Full Moon Poya day Il Full Moon Poya day, the penultimate Poya of the year, usually falls in the week of November. Followers of the Buddhist faith visit the temple with family members and offer flowers. Many observe Sil and engage in meditation on this day.   The time for offering of Katina Cheevera - thick robes for the rainy season to Buddhist priests who observed “Vas” or the rainy season sojourn ends on Il full moon poya day. Thus a series of meritorious activities connected with “Vas” and Cheevera puja also comes to an end.   However, Il full moon poya day is   special significance to Buddhists due to numerous other religious events taken place on this day and during the month of Il. Sending missionaries for the first time for the propagation of Buddhism, conversion of three Kassapa brothers, “Devarohanaya” or descending from the celestial world, and the attainment of Arahant Sariputta’s parinibbana are the significant events that had taken place on this full moon poya

  Biodiversity of Sri Lanka   Biodiversity, a famous term among all of us nowadays .But there isn’t a one exact definition for the term ‘ biodiversity ’ .Considering various definitions published by different summits ,biologists ,ecologists ,etc; most logical ,scientific & explanatory definition was published in the earth summit,1992(Rio de Janeiro). “ ’Biological diversity’ means the variability among living organisms from all sources including ,inter alia ,terrestrial ,marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part :this includes diversity within species :between species and of ecosystems”   Sri Lanka is one of the 34 biodiversity hotspots identified in the world and has the highest biodiversity per unit area of land amongst Asian countries .The island of Sri Lanka has an area of 65 610 km²   lies between latitudes 5 0 55’ and 9 0 51’ N and longitudes 79 0 41’ and 81 0 54’ E .Three different topographic regions are found in Sri Lank

  It   is   time for action to end   violence against women.          Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women & Girls. A day that reminds us that we all have a role to play in ending the world’s most pervasive, yet one of the least recognized human rights abuses.        The United General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence & other forms of violence, furthermore one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale & true nature of the issue is often hidden.        It is one of the least prosecuted crimes, & one of the greatest threats to lasting peace & development.
