Project ‘Speak to the Future’

Installation of Playground at Godaulpatha Dharmapala Primary School, Matale

The Rotaract Club of CCS partnered with the Student Council of CCS to install a playground complete with a slide, swing, see-saw and castle at the Godaulpatha Dharmapala Primary School, Matale which was the amazing end product of months of their hard work.
We started early in the morning from Kottawa and made a quick stop for a roadside breakfast. Afterwards we made our way directly to the school where we were greeted by their Principal. A talented little girl gave the welcome speech, which was followed by a cute little dance performed by the Grade 1 and 2 students of the school. Our Rotaract Club president and the school Principal too made quick speeches. Although the kids were seemingly timid and shy at first, they were all laughs and smiles in a little while; posing for pictures and enjoying probably one of the best days of their life. After a quick 'kola kenda' we got into work. Many sweaty hours later we had planted all four items and were feeling a big satisfaction. The school had arranged lunch for us which we enjoyed underneath the shade of a hut right beside the school. After exchanging pleasantries with the Principal, we started making our way back home only stopping for dinner.

Big thanks goes to our seniors who were willing to take us Level 1s along with them on this project. Even a million dollars wouldn’t have been able to get us the smiles and excitement that we saw on the faces of those kids that day!
