Iftar’25 – A Night of Faith, Fellowship, and Brotherhood

"When hearts unite in gratitude, even the simplest meal becomes a feast of blessings."

As the sun dipped below the horizon on 27th of March, 2025, the Institution of Chemistry Ceylon radiated warmth and unity during Iftar’25, a grand celebration of Ramadan’s spirit of generosity and togetherness. Organized by the Students Association of the College of Chemical Sciences and the Rotaract Club of the College of Chemical Sciences, the event transcended cultural boundaries, bringing together students, faculty, and distinguished guests in a memorable evening of faith and fellowship.

A Gathering Under the Banner of Unity

The air buzzed with anticipation as attendees arrived at the festively decorated IChemC premises, where twinkling lanterns and calligraphy-adorned banners set the stage for an unforgettable iftar.

The Essence of Iftar: More Than Just a Meal

Iftar, the meal that breaks the daylong fast during Ramadan, is a sacred moment of gratitude, reflection, and community. Rooted in Islamic tradition, it symbolizes patience, empathy, and the joy of sharing blessings with others. At Iftar’25, this spirit was palpable as students from diverse backgrounds joined hands to prepare and serve the meal, reinforcing the values of inclusivity and service.

A Distinguished Guest of Honor

The evening was graced by the presence of Ash-Sheikh Ahmadh Yasir Ismail, a luminary in global Islamic leadership and diplomacy. Currently serving as the Consular Affairs Officer at the Embassy of Qatar in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and as the Secretary General of the Asian Federation of Muslim Youth (AFMY-MALAYSIA), Ash-Sheikh Ahmadh brought a wealth of wisdom and intercultural insight. His tenure as the Former Imam of Masjid Umar Al Farook in South Korea further highlighted his dedication to fostering interfaith harmony and youth empowerment.  His words resonated deeply, inspiring attendees to reflect on the deeper purpose of fasting—self-discipline, gratitude, and solidarity with those in need.

An Evening of Blessings and Brotherhood

As the melodious Adhan (call to prayer) echoed across the venue, the gathering observed the Maghrib prayer after breaking their fast with dates and water—a tradition rooted in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The iftar feast featured an array of delectable dishes, from Kanji and crispy cutlets to rich desserts like jalebi, all lovingly prepared by volunteers.

Building Bridges Across Cultures

What made Iftar’25 truly special was its power to unite people from different walks of life. Non-Muslim attendees experienced the beauty of Ramadan traditions, while Muslim students found pride in sharing their heritage.

A Legacy of Compassion

As the night concluded with heartfelt duas (prayers) for peace and prosperity, the organizers reflected on the journey of Iftar’25. This event was a testament to what we can achieve when we come together in service and solidarity.
