Cricketeract ’15
By Rtr. Ashen Samaranayake
Sri Lanka is a country where amazing people live who love cricket as much as their national sport.Identifying their passion towards cricket, the Rotaract Club of CCS decided to help young enthusiastic cricketers to step-up one more step in achieving their dreams. And how did we do this? “Cricketeract ’15” invited the best coaches in the country in which one would be lucky enough to have.
On this special day, November 08th 2015, at Thurstan college sports complex, there were the huge eager eyes of cricket fanatics waiting to be coached by the finest in the island with their passionate young hearts beating to the rhythm of cricket. Everyone was so excited I bet even the grass on the ground felt the cricket.
The energetic and enthusiastic young cricketers wasted no time in acquiring the international level techniques from the national level coaches and mixing them together with their own skills.
Cricket is not just a game that anyone could play if they got a bat and a ball. It’s a game that requires the use of your brain too. Therefore just the field practice wouldn’t do the miracle itself. Knowing this, our coaches arranged special sessions to improve mental skills, spirit and the morality of the players.
At the end of the day we saw amazing strikes of young batsmen, improved bowling techniques of the bowlers’ and amazing footwork of the fielders’ and I swear this filled our souls with the joy of having given these cricketers an amazing opportunity. The futures of Sri Lankan cricket were right in front of our eyes. It was nice to know that the Rotaract Club of CCS played even the tiniest part in the improvement of the future of cricket in Sri Lanka.
The hard work totally paid off and we wouldn’t have gotten anywhere if not for the dedication and the fullest support of all our club members. This day would in no way have been a success if it wasn’t for Mr. Anusha Samaranayake, national fast bowling coach, who gathered together the Sri Lankan Cricket Board to aid us with their guidance and encouragement for this workshop to happen!
