AMR 360 - One World, One Health

Antimicrobial resistance continues to pose a growing challenge to global health, largely due to gaps in awareness and everyday practices. In recognition of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, the Rotaract Club of the College of Chemical Sciences organized AMR 360, an international awareness webinar conducted as a project under the international services avenue. The initiative brought together multiple Rotaract clubs across countries, reflecting the global relevance of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of collaborative action.

Overview of the Initiative

AMR 360 was designed as an awareness-driven webinar that connected participants with diverse global perspectives on antimicrobial resistance. The session moved beyond technical explanations and instead focused on how AMR relates to daily decision-making, patient awareness, and responsible practices. By bringing together voices from different regions and professional backgrounds, the webinar highlighted the collective role individuals and communities play in addressing this growing concern.

The platform encouraged open discussion and reflection, allowing participants to engage with the topic in a meaningful and practical manner.

Purpose and Outcomes of the Project

The primary objective of AMR 360 was to raise awareness and promote responsibility rather than deliver purely scientific content. The project aimed to present antimicrobial resistance as a shared global issue shaped by everyday choices, public awareness, and informed action.

During the session, speakers were posed questions that encouraged spontaneous responses and deeper reflection on the topic. This interactive element strengthened the discussion, allowing diverse perspectives to emerge while reinforcing key messages related to antimicrobial resistance.

In addition, the speakers engaged in a collective discussion among themselves, exchanging insights and viewpoints. This dialogue added depth to the session and emphasized the importance of collaborative thinking when addressing complex global health challenges.

International Collaboration and Shared Learning

A defining feature of AMR 360 was the collaboration between Rotaract clubs from multiple countries. The project was a joint initiative by the Rotaract Club of the College of Chemical Sciences, Rotaract Club of Acropolis Professionals, Rotaract Club of Abuja Unity, Rotaract Club of Accra-East Legon, Rotaract Club of the University of Porto, and Rotaract Club del Valle Monterrey.

This international partnership reflected the global nature of antimicrobial resistance and enriched the webinar through the exchange of diverse perspectives and experiences. The collaboration highlighted the strength of cross-border cooperation in promoting awareness, advocacy, and shared responsibility.

Session Overview and Resource Persons

The AMR 360 webinar was conducted on 20th November via the Google Meet platform. The session featured a panel of distinguished speakers representing multiple countries and professional backgrounds. The resource persons included Carlos Luis Sánchez from Mexico, Professor Veranja Liyanapathirana from Sri Lanka, Dr. Madhumanee Abeywardena from Sri Lanka, and Dr. Paulo Jorge Tavares de Castro from Portugal.

Their diverse expertise and perspectives contributed to a well-rounded discussion, enabling participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of antimicrobial resistance from a global viewpoint.

Participant Engagement and Feedback

The webinar received positive engagement, with participants appreciating the interactive nature of the session and the opportunity to observe meaningful dialogue among the speakers. Many highlighted the value of global perspectives and the clarity with which key ideas were communicated.

The session encouraged reflection and reinforced the importance of awareness as a foundation for responsible action.

From Awareness to Action

AMR 360 was more than a single awareness session; it was a step toward turning knowledge into meaningful action against antimicrobial resistance. By bringing together international Rotaract clubs, expert speakers, and thoughtful discussion, the project highlighted how awareness can drive responsible practices and global collaboration.

As Rotaractors, we remain committed to initiatives under the International Services avenue that empower communities and promote informed decision-making. AMR 360 serves as a reminder that awareness, collaboration, and responsible action are essential to safeguarding the future of global health.
