World Youth Skills Day

World youth skills day is celebrated on every year on 15th of July. The UN invented this day and the purpose of this day is to spread awareness of the importance of technical and vocational education, training and the development of new skills in our lives, which are closely related to both local and global economies.

On December 18, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus. The resolution was previously led by Sri Lanka and announced July 15 as World Youth Skills Day. Sri Lanka, with the assistance of the Group of G77 and China, proposed this resolution to emphasize the importance of global youth skills development. The purpose of celebrating this day is to create better socio-economic conditions for today’s young people, including addressing the challenges of unemployment and underemployment.

World youth skills day 2020 is taking place in a challenging context. Focusing on resilience, the world youth skills day 2020 will take stock of the impact of the covid-19 crisis on skills development and explore strategies in response to unfolding economic crisis. Thus entails preparing young people with the capacities to respond to rapid changes in employment and entrepreneurship in the sectors that are hardest hit by the crisis. UNESCO
